Every year on August 1st, we celebrate DOGust! It is a dog loving holiday. If you have ever adopted a dog and you weren't 100% certain when their birthday is, you probably had to guess and pick a date or just celebrate their “gotcha day".
DOGust is the Official Birthday to Celebrate All Shelter Dogs
August 1st, or DOGust, is the nation’s official birthday celebration for all shelter dogs who don’t have a known birthday. To clarify, this date was picked for DOGust by the North Shore Animal League America and applies to any shelter dog who doesn’t have a confirmed birth date. This day is much more than a birthday party. It is an opportunity to spread awareness about shelter dogs and promoting the adoption of homeless pets.
If you care about shelter dogs and want to give back, here are a few ways to do so:
Donate your time to a shelter Shelters are always looking for great volunteers! Apply to volunteer for the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) by visiting https://www.hsnt.org/volunteer
Pamper your shelter pup! Party like it's their birthday! If you have an adopted dog, pamper them for the day! Anything that your fur baby likes. puppuccinos, car rides, a day at the dog park. Treat your rescued pup to a day they only dreamed of when they were in the shelter.
Donate to your local shelter!
There are many ways to donate to your local shelters and every dollar or item donated counts! Donating money and much needed items to your non-profit shelters. To learn more about ways to give to HSNT, visit https://www.hsnt.org/ways-to-give.
Spread the word
One of the most lasting ways to impact shelter dogs is to spread the word about your local shelter and encourage your friends and family to adopt. Shelter pets deserve a forever home and encouraging others to consider adopting a shelter dog can help save a life!
